Making the perfect rice isn’t an easy thing to do. As someone who eats a lot of rice, anything from basmati to wild grain to sweet white rice, I have made batches of rice that has come out way too wet and mushy on more occasions then I care to remember. It’s not so bad when I’m making a dish for myself, but I really dislike when I mess up a batch of rice when I’m having company for dinner. So after many failed attempts with stove top and microwave cooking, I finally decided it was time for a rice cooker. I chose the Oster Rice Cooker and Steamer for both it’s versatility and it’s value.

With this rice cooker, I can cook as little or as much rice as I want, even up to 20 cups for my special occasions. It also features a steaming tray which is perfect for steaming my favorite veggies like broccoli, asparagus, and carrots. The interior pot and steaming tray can easily be removed for easy clean-up in the dishwasher. This rice cooker is attractive to serve in and comes with a measuring cup and a rice paddle too. It’s definitely one of my favorite kitchen cooking tools.

I like to make a good split pea and ham soup, but sometimes when I’ve got ham to use up, I like to always welcome a change. A nice, creamy crock pot ham potato soup is just the ticket. What I like about this recipe is that you make a white sauce to thicken the soup. That extra step can make a nice difference between a soup and a nice, creamy soup.

I always keep new crock pot recipes in a box in my pantry. Every time I spot a recipe that appeals to me, I clip, print, or copy it and throw it in the box. Then, when I’m looking for something different to make, I dig around in the box and pull one out. If we think it’s a winner, we put that recipe in our permanent recipe binder. I like this system because it gives me a chance to try new recipes without cluttering up my recipe file if they aren’t what we expected… until they’ve reached the “tried and true” status.

Are you always volunteering to bring your famous casserole to the next office party or family gathering? Somehow I often find myself doing the very same thing. And what I usually do is take my glass or ceramic dish that I’ve baked the food in, cover it in foil and place it on a piece of cardboard inside a bag to carry it in, always being careful to keep it straight and steady in the car. Not the best way to get the job done! Then my sister bought me a fantastic portable ceramic bakeware set for my birthday – no more foil covers and cardboard carrier for me.

The portable bakeware set has everything I need to take my favorite dish on he road. It’s starts with a classic CorningWare French white 3-quart ceramic casserole dish – which is the perfect size for me. It also includes a tight-fitting plastic cover, a hot and cold pack, and a great nylon carry bag. Perfect! This portable ceramic bakeware is the perfect all-around kitchenware for me, easy to use, easy to carry, and easy to clean!

If you’re considering to buy a fruit related gift, for someone on your Christmas list, you might not know which fruit to pick. Many types will sound appealing and you don’t always know the preferences of the person you’re buying for. When there are so many options out there, why settle with just one? Sending a chocolate dipped mixed dried fruits selection is a great option for several different reasons.

Firstly, the fact that the fruit is dried means it will last longer. These fruits will not spoil, similar to regular fresh fruit. Then, for those who don’t want all dried fruit, they might consider the gift box of fresh chocolate covered strawberries as well. This will combine the best of both worlds – fresh fruit and long lasting dried fruit.

Lastly, you will have a great selection. TheBasketSpot.com allows you to choose several types of fruit, that you know the person you’re sending your gift to will enjoy. This will give your recipient the opportunity to share their chocolate strawberries with friends and relatives. There’s no way to know what everyone’s particular tastes or, so having a selection makes a lot of sense.

I have a confession to make… I’m absolutely addicted to taco salad. This resulted in my dragging my family to a local Mexican Restaurant about once a week. Obviously that wasn’t too healthy for either of us, nor our bank account. Then I came across this tortilla chip pie recipe. I love it… it’s a slightly healthier version, since it doesn’t use a deep fried taco shell as the base, but it still gives me all same flavors. Thankfully the rest of my family seems to like it just as much, so those weekly trips to the restaurant are now a thing of the past.

I started browsing around the website, and came across all kinds of other easy bean recipes. So far I’ve made the black bean soup and the pinto beans and both of those turned out delicious. I can’t wait to try more. I also noticed that we are using quite a bit less meat since I started to cook more with dry beans. And since they are full of lean protein and fiber, they are a lot better for us anyway.
