Are you ready for Thanksgiving? You may be thinking that you don’t have to concern yourself with it yet since it’s weeks away, but if you’ll be hosting the holiday, then you know it’s probably time to start thinking about the guest list and the dinner menu. Even if you’ll be heading to someone else’s home you have to start making your travel plans. If you’ll be doing the cooking, then the most important part of the feast you’ll need to address first is the bird. Of course, the number of pounds you’ll need depends on the number of guests you’ll be having. Once you know that, you can stat planning the rest of the dishes. You can cook your delicious turkey in this Romertopf Maxi Clay Baker.

This super-large Romertopf Clay Cookware piece is big enough to hold up to a seventeen pound bird or roast. The most wonderful thing about cooking in a clay pot is how moist and tender the meat dish turns out. Your family will surely devour a turkey cooked this way, though hopefully not so much that you don’t have any leftovers to enjoy for the week.

I’m not sure when I first fell in love with the idea of a raised bed but over time it slowly sank in that this is the way I would like to garden. To have the versatility of a raised garden along with containers to garden out of and create your own blend of perfect flowers, herbs and vegetables in the space you have available was very appealing to me. My problem though was finding the right raised bed that would work in my situation. Living in a condo in an urban downtown condo was not conducive to most of the beds I was finding.

Then I happened on to a website that sold a wonderful tiered raised bed kit that would fit in a space of 3 ft x 4 ft and could be placed on a patio, porch, stoop or deck as long as the area was rated for the proper weight. I just with the Homeowners Association and they said it was rated for the weight and I bought it. First of all, It was so easy to put together and fill as well as to plant and it has worked perfectly thus far. I cannot tell you how pleased I have been since I have lettuce out of my garden as well as tomatoes and assorted herbs.

I grew up watching two of the most talented gardeners I have ever known; my grandmothers. Back in their day they were both members of their respective local garden clubs. I don’t know much about garden clubs today but they seemed to be a very big deal back then. These two ladies had totally different personalities and didn’t seem to like each other much, but they loved their respective gardens and they knew how to use a garden trellis.

While one of my grandmothers grew prize roses, the other grandmother seemed to grow everything else but roses. However, each used garden trellises throughout their vegetable gardens, rose garden, and along walls of English Ivy and other climbing varieties as well as for tomatoes and cucumbers. Of course, back then there weren’t any fancy vinyl or wrought iron trellises. They were made of cedar and came in all kinds of shapes and sizes. If either was alive today, I believe they would rather have something natural in their gardens than man made. That was what was normal to them and still is to me. I love natural cedar garden trellises for everything I plant that either requires or likes something to climb.

When it’s done, you and your family can then treat yourself to the delicious results, breaking open the warm bread and spreading butter and jam on it, or dipping it in a bowl of soup or sauce. Actually, you’ll probably need to make more than one loaf if you want enough bread for everybody, because it will disappear fast. When it comes to baking a fresh loaf of homemade bread, it always pays to have a great bread pan for the best results. Romertopf makes this classic clay French bread pan that is perfect for the job.
