Thick And Rich Ham And Potato Soup Is Sure Welcome In Our House

January 5, 2009 – 4:25 pm

I like to make a good split pea and ham soup, but sometimes when I’ve got ham to use up, I like to always welcome a change.  A nice, creamy crock pot ham potato soup is just the ticket.  What I like about this recipe is that you make a white sauce to thicken the soup.  That extra step can make a nice difference between a soup and a nice, creamy soup.

I always keep new crock pot recipes in a box in my pantry.  Every time I spot a recipe that appeals to me, I clip, print, or copy it and throw it in the box.  Then, when I’m looking for something different to make, I dig around in the box and pull one out.  If we think it’s a winner, we put that recipe in our permanent recipe binder.  I like this system because it gives me a chance to try new recipes without cluttering up my recipe file if they aren’t what we expected… until they’ve reached the “tried and true” status.
